In order to be successful and move forward in any industry, you need to have complete focus, dedication to applying your mental energy towards a goal 100%! In 2020 this can seem extremely difficult, social media, 24/7 access to the internet via our mobile phones, all of this has trained our brain to look for short, quick stimulus.
In order to train your mind to be focused for long periods of time, you need to look at the ancient practice of meditation! This concept is all about living in the moment, not being trapped in your thoughts, thinking of the past and or the future. Despite meditation still being viewed as a very esoteric practice, it’s actually remarkably easy. Simply find a quiet space, close your eyes, and focus on your breathing (inhale through the nose, exhale out the mouth). Try and just focus on the sensation of the air entering your nose, the feeling of the air rushing past your nostril hair! Focus on the sound the air makes, picture in your mind the air travelling through your body through the blood cells, often you will find your mind wanders, thinking about things of the world, when you do this just refocus back to the breath, this is your centre point. We recommend 10 minutes of a meditation a day but if you still find mediation a little to occult for you then we suggest the following two activities to help train your mind to be in a more mindful, present state!
Acupressure is the ancient practice that was created thousands of years ago in India by the holy men. Acupressure is simply applying pressure to stimulate pressure points on the body, this promotes relaxation and helps your mind enter a mindful present state. What we are actually going to recommend is get an acupressure mat rather than going to an acupuncture clink. Acupressure mat’s re simply foam-based pads that contain lotus-shaped plastic pressure points, when lied on the pressure points are stimulated via the lotus points. These modern-day bed of nails contains over 5000 points that focus on the main energy points of the body, use your acupressure mat for 10 minutes, you will notice that your mind is purely focused on the sensation of the pressure points being stimulated. Make this a ritual and you will find your mind naturally migrates towards this mindset.
Snorkelling is another way to really train your mind to be more present and focused! It’s also a lot of fun and a great exercise for all no matter what age or sex. When you go snorkelling in a full face snorkel mask you will be totally absorbed within the alien underwater world, this makes your mind focused! No thoughts about what you need to do for dinner, or how you embarrassed yourself that one time, no, all these thoughts are just non-existent and it highlights how you can actually control your thoughts. In the summertime try and go to the ocean at least twice a week, you will be surprised how only 30 minutes can completely change your mood and refocus your mind, scientists have even proven that the salt water has a positive effect on the body and mind.
